Multi-echelon Exchangeable-item Repair System Optimization
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider an M/G/∞ exchangeable-item repair system with spares and ample servers to which arriving customers bring failed items for repair. The system comprises a multi-item-type, multiechelon system in which failed items may be either repaired at the first echelon or sent for repair in higher echelons. To decrease the average waiting time of a random customer, managers can invest in multiple ways: increasing the number of spares; reducing repair times; improving repair capabilities and reducing shipping times. We provide an efficient algorithm for a sub-optimal budget allocation at each location in the system and derive an upper bound for the distance of the solution from the optimal solution. We derive the waiting time distribution of a random customer and the distribution of the number of customers in the system. Finally, we provide a numerical example that is motivated by a real-life situation to demonstrate the results and intuitions learned from the model.

Determining Customer Delay in an M/G/∞ Exchangeable Item Repair System with Spares
We consider an M/G/∞ exchangeable-item repair system with spares and ample servers to which arriving customers bring groups of random size B identical items for repair. An exact formula for the waiting time distribution and a computationally efficient approximation are presented for this system. From this, we not only have the standard fillrate, but a practical extension of this concept to a 'f...
متن کاملTwo-echelon Repairable Item Inventory System with Limited Repair Capacity under Nonstationary Demands
We study a repairable item inventory system under limited repair capacity and nonstationary Poisson demands, motivated by corrective maintenance of military equipment. Our goal is to minimize the cost of both spare and repair resource allocation. We propose an efficient analytical model that combines optimization modeling and queuing theory.
متن کاملOptimal spares allocation to an exchangeable-item repair system with tolerable wait
In a multi-location, exchangeable-item repair system with spares, the expected waiting time and the fill rate measures are oftentimes used as the optimization criteria for the spares allocation problem. These measures, however, do not take into account that customers will tolerate a reasonable delay and therefore, the firm does not incur reputation costs if customers wait less than their tolera...
متن کاملEffects of finite repair capacity in multi-echelon, multi-indenture service part supply systems
In this paper, we consider multi-echelon, multi-indenture supply systems for repairable service parts with finite repair capacity. We show that the commonly used assumption of infinite capacity may seriously affect system performance and stock allocation decisions if the repair shop utilisation is relatively high. Both for the case of item-dedicated and shared repair shops, we modify the well-k...
متن کاملAllocating service parts in two-echelon networks at a utility company
We study a multi-item, two-echelon, continuous-review inventory problem at a Dutch utility company, Liander. We develop a model that optimizes the quantities of service parts and their allocation in the two-echelon network under an aggregate waiting time restriction. Specific aspects that we address are emergency shipments in case of stockout, and batching for regular replenishment orders at th...
